BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A potential fire levy lid lift may be in the works as Whatcom 4 faces low funding.

The Whatcom County Fire District 4 Board of Commissioners will meet on Monday, May 1st, to discuss placing the levy increase on this year’s primary election ballot.

If approved, it would keep Station 12 responding to emergency calls 24 hours a day.

If the potential lid lift fails, the station would no longer be staffed 24 hours and response times could increase up to 30 minutes or more.

Whatcom County Fire District 4 provides fire and emergency medical service to 10,000 people in the communities of Van Wyck, East Smith Road and Northshore.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Station 12 on Britton Loop Road.

Community members are encouraged to attend or watch via Zoom Webinar.
