BELLINGHAM, WA – Whatcom and Skagit Counties, as well as the City of Bellingham, have followed the state DNR’s lead and enacted sweeping burn bans amid increasingly dry conditions.
All outdoor burning is prohibited in unincorporated areas of both counties until further notice.
Wood burning or charcoal fire pits or enclosures with a grate or screen are not considered barbeques and are prohibited.
Propane or charcoal barbeques are allowed in developed residential areas but must be used over non-combustible surfaces.
Violating the ban can bring a $250 fine, and someone who is found to have sparked a wildfire can be held financially liable for damages.
