BELLINGHAM, WA. – (KGMI.com) A Whatcom County nursing assistant had her license suspended after accepting thousands of dollars in gifts and loans from a patient.

The Washington State Department of Health says Gina Mixson was a caregiver for a 64-year-old man at a residential care facility.

Mixson is accused of accepting about $3,000 in gifts and money from the patient between 2020 and 2023.

She is also alleged to have accepted $4,500 in loans for a new car and apartment, of which she paid back only $180 as of last month.

Mixson is charged with unprofessional conduct and can not be reinstated for two years.

She must pay a $250 fine and pass an ethics course before petitioning for reinstatement.
