BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Whatcom County Public Works is warning about scammers posing as county workers.
They say scammers recently offered to spread gravel they had left over from a nearby project on a homeowner’s driveway for free.
They began working but then demanded payment, prompting the homeowner to order them off their property.
L&I warns that these types of “asphalt paving scams” are a seasonal occurance.
Scammers typically target older homeowners with promises of one-time-only paving deals and then find excuses to inflate the price.
Whatcom Public Works says their personnel will never show up at a property unsolicited and try to sell products or services.
