BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Whatcom County’s Search and Rescue is racing against the clock to continue operations.
Committee Chair Gwynne Top says their current building, located on West Smith Road, will be torn down next May.
WCSAR has been at that location since 1984.
That property is owned by the county.
That site will be used to construct a new County Planning and Public Works facility.
Top says a plot of land in Everson was donated to the SAR team for a new building.
However, it needs to be built and functioning before next year’s deadline to vacate their West Smith Road location.
Fundraising efforts to build their new facility are ongoing.
