LYNDEN, WA. – (KGMI.com) Water in Whatcom County’s Wiser and Silver Lakes are now safe for people and pets.
Whatcom County Health and Community Services says testing shows levels of a biotoxin have fallen below limits set by the EPA.
The toxin caused by algal blooms affects the liver and causes abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, pneumonia and other ailments.
The blooms occur naturally but can be increased by human and animal activity.
A warning for people and animals to avoid contact with water in the lakes has been lifted.
