FERNDALE, Wash. – A woman charged in connection with the death of a man in Ferndale has been sentenced.
Kimberly Trujillo Mendoza pled guilty on March 14th to helping her boyfriend, Miguel Angel Miranda, evade police.
Miranda fatally shot Jose Esquivel Hernandez during a large party in Ferndale in January 2022.
Trujillo Mendoza picked up Miranda in Portland and drove him to Arizona, where he was eventually arrested.
Court documents state that as part of a plea agreement, Trujillo Mendoza’s criminal rendering charge was reduced from first to second degree.
She was sentenced to one year in prison; however, her full sentence was suspended, meaning she will not serve any jail time for now.
Her sentence could go into effect if she breaks the terms of her probation.
Meanwhile, Miranda was sentenced in November to 21 years behind bars, followed by three years of probation.
