BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Workers at the REI store in Bellingham are following what appears to be a growing trend toward unionization.
A supermajority of employees at the outdoor outfitter support filing for a union election with the National Labor Relations Board.
The workers would join the United Food and Commercial Workers union if the vote is successful.
REI’s communications department says workers at eight of the company’s stores have petitioned to hold an election.
Three elections have occurred, and workers voted in favor of unionization in all of them.
Seattle-based REI is a co-op that operates 181 stores nationwide.
