FERNDALE, Wash. – A bus accident caused a major power outage in Ferndale on Thursday, February 9th.

The Whatcom Transportation Authority says their driver suffered a medical emergency and lost control of the bus on Vista Drive at about 10:15 a.m.

The bus hit a power pole near Vista Middle School before the driver was able to bring it to a stop.

She was transported to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Hospital for treatment.

Five passengers onboard the bus were not hurt.

Puget Sound Energy says power was knocked out to 1,200 customers including five schools in Ferndale.

Power was fully restored just after 5 p.m.
