SPOKANE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The state Attorney General is suing a Washington county’s sheriff for collaborating with federal immigration enforcement.
Attorney General Nick Brown filed the suit Monday, March 10 against the Adams County Sheriff’s Office in Spokane County Superior Court.
The lawsuit claims that the sheriff’s office is illegally collaborating with federal immigration officials and aiding the Trump administration in its work to bring in local law enforcement.
The suit adds the sheriff’s office has held people in custody based solely on immigration status, assisted federal agents in questioning those in custody and given over confidential information about Washingtonians.
While Washington law does not interfere with federal work in the state, it does prohibit local and state resources going towards that work.
The state AG’s office says that the lawsuit works to enforce the Keep Washington Working Act that passed in 2019 with bipartisan support.
