WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The results from Tuesday’s special election are all but decided after Thursday’s most recent vote tally.
Only about two ballots are left to be counted, according to the Whatcom County Auditor’s Office.
All school districts in the county will pass their respective levies. Nooksack Valley’s measure was in limbo after passing by just seven votes in Wednesday’s count. But it is passing by 48 votes in the most recent update Thursday.
Both major bond proposals in Blaine and Lynden will not pass. Each needed a 60% majority “yes” vote. Lynden’s $157.5 million bond for a high school and other upgrades was supported by just under 51% of voters. In Blaine, their $70 million bond measure had slightly more traction, with just under 55% in favor.
Tax levies for Whatcom County’s Fire District 8 and Blaine-Birch Bay’s Parks and Recreation Department were also approved, both winning over two-thirds of the vote.
Voter turnout for this special election was just under 38% of all registered voters. The final ballot count will be released by the auditor’s office on Feb. 22. To view the exact counts for each measure, visit the auditor’s website.
