BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The Bellingham Police Department was temporarily blocked off on the morning of May 6 after a woman showed up with two loaded guns.

Bellingham Police spokesperson Megan Peters says the department was notified around 10:30 a.m. of a woman with a rifle in the front parking lot of the station.

Officers secured the perimeter and blocked off the street to through traffic, while also advising nearby schools and businesses of the situation. The woman told negotiators that her rifle was loaded and officers noticed she had a pistol, which she indicated was also loaded.

She was not clearly communicating with officers and seemed to be experiencing a behavioral health crisis.

Police were eventually able to distract the woman while others came from behind to detain her and take the guns away. No one was injured and the woman was taken into protective custody.

The entire incident lasted roughly 20 minutes.
