BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A growing event off the shores of Bellingham Bay is ending its summer run early.
The Community Boating Center, which organizes Beats on the Bay, announced their final performance on Sept. 1 will not take place as planned.
Instead, performer Henry Mansfield will take his act to Kulshan Trackside.
The CBC says the decision to cancel the original show was difficult but necessary due to rising safety concerns for concertgoers. Those included people not wearing life jackets, inebriated people making poor decisions and other unsafe activities disrupting boat traffic.
For future events, the CBC plans to consult with city officials, maritime partners and first responders to create more safeguards next year.
Tuesday’s new performance location at Trackside will send 10% of all proceeds to the CBC.
The boating center uses Beats on the Bay funding to support free and low-cost programming.
