BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Park lovers in Bellingham will be seeing a new trail near Lake Padden following a new land acquisition by the city.
The Bellingham City Council approved the purchase of 66 acres of undeveloped land on Samish Crest last week.
The new property will connect city-owned spaces to advance its goal of building a north-south trail connection between Whatcom Falls Park and Lake Padden Park. The $4 million purchase was made using funds from the city’s voter-approved Greenways Levy.
According to the city, acquiring the land will also help protect water quality at Lake Padden, preserve tree canopy and protect wildlife habitat. The sale is expected to close on March 7.
The city says it will begin more detailed planning for the future trail network through Samish Crest in 2026.
