BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A Bellingham man is facing hate crime and assault charges after police say he hurled racial slurs and urinated on a man.

Police Lt. Claudia Murphy says officers were called to a harassment report on Bill McDonald Parkway Wednesday night, Aug. 5.

Officers say the 34-year-old suspect had been involved in ongoing disputes with the victim after being asked not to park on the victim’s property.

The victim claims he was barbecuing in his parking lot when the man returned to a spot across a fence and directed racial slurs at the victim and his guests, who were all East Indian or Hispanic.

They also accused the man of bragging about breaking windows, which the victim found concerning because his business suffered two broken windows over the past two weeks. Murphy says the windows had been broken after the parking dispute began between the two.

The group continued with the barbecue before the victim realized the man was urinating on his leg through the fence.

The suspect was booked into the Whatcom County Jail Wednesday and released Friday morning after meeting bail. He was also trespassed from the property for five years.
