BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The Bellingham Police Department (BPD) got help from their newest canine coworker to capture a suspected felon with a sword.
Patrol Sgt. Nick Sturlaugson says officers were called to a domestic violence protection order violation at an apartment complex on the night of Dec. 16.
The suspect, who already had two felony warrants out for the same offense, was reported to have been banging on the victim’s windows. He tried to leave on a bike, but when officers arrived, he dropped it and ran away.
BPD’s newest K9, Stella, was called to track the suspect down and followed him on a lengthy pursuit through the nearby woods, a trail system and a neighboring apartment complex.
Stella eventually alerted officers to a vehicle where they found the suspect hiding underneath. A search of the suspect yielded a small sword before he was taken into custody.
