BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Police removed hate speech-based vandalism that was discovered at an elementary school in Bellingham over the weekend.

Bellingham Police spokesperson Megan Peters says someone reported seeing the racist and anti-Semitic graffiti at Northern Heights Elementary on Saturday, July 6.

Responding officers were able to wash off the white chalk from a covered play area near the school’s basketball courts.

Peters says the department plans to check cameras in the area to see if there was footage of who is responsible for it.

The vandalism comes weeks after a black Whatcom Middle School student was assaulted because of his race.
