BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Bellingham Public Schools is offering opportunities for community members to speak about proposed school closures.

The district is hosting a handful of in-person group meetings to continue conversations and learn more about the community’s response to their recent announcement.

My Bellingham Now previously reported that Superintendent Dr. Greg Baker is in favor of closing Carl Cozier and Columbia Elementary Schools at the end of this academic year.

Community members who want to hear from others and voice their opinion can sign up online for an in-person group meeting later this week.

All group conversations will be moderated by district staff and principals.

Group discussion dates are currently scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 6; Thursday, Oct. 8 and Friday, Oct. 9. The discussions are held four to six times throughout the day: in the morning, afternoon and early evening. They will be at several elementary schools and the district office.

The school closures are not final until the school board votes to approve them.
