BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A Bellingham woman is in custody after being accused of trying to stab someone.

Bellingham Police spokesperson Lt. Claudia Murphy says officers were called to a residence in north Bellingham Tuesday morning.

The reporting woman says she was checking her mail when another woman confronted her and tried to stab her with a pocketknife for no clear reason.

Another person witnessed the interaction and yelled at the suspect to put her knife away, causing her to leave the area.

The suspect later admitted to police that she pulled the knife but claimed the victim was chasing her, which the witness refuted.

The 32-year-old woman was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon. She remains at the Whatcom County Jail on $5,000 bail.
