BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Bellingham’s city limits may see a future change, and residents are being asked to share their thoughts.

Bellingham City Council announced it will be holding a public hearing on a potential land annexation on July 21.

My Bellingham Now previously reported that over 60% of property owners in an area near Squalicum High School petitioned the council to expand city services in late 2023.

The 146-acre parcel of land on which they reside is located in one of Bellingham’s designated Urban Growth Areas. It stretches from Britton Road near the Mount Baker Highway, south towards Barkley Boulevard and to the east at Toad Lake Road.

North Whatcom Fire and Rescue also has a station within the proposed annexation area.

City councilmembers voted to study the impacts of the annexation last spring, but some raised concerns about residents receiving adequate emergency services if the plan is approved.
