BLAINE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A two-month-long search for a suspected burglar ended in an arrest over the weekend.

Bellingham Police Lt. Claudia Murphy says that the suspect, identified as 36-year-old Carl Woods of Blaine, was wanted in connection to a burglary and assault in Blaine. Murphy noted that he has a history of engaging in reckless pursuits with law enforcement.

On the afternoon of Dec. 27, police were alerted to an attempted burglary at a home on Lakeway Drive. The suspect vehicle seen at the house matched the description of Woods’ car. Police searched the area and found Woods and the vehicle on Xenia Street a short time later.

Woods attempted to escape by pulling into a driveway, but police blocked him in and ordered him to get out. When he refused to comply, police smashed in a back window and sprayed chemical irritants inside.

Woods exited the car, made repeated threats and used slurs against officers while being taken into custody. Police later found several realistic-looking BB guns and evidence of fentanyl use inside Woods’ car.

He remains at the Whatcom County Jail on over $330,000 bail.
