BLAINE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Blaine Police are warning residents of a phone scam circulating the area.
The Blaine Police Department says several victims from Blaine and Birch Bay have reported getting phone calls from someone claiming to be a Blaine police officer.
The scammers are even matching their caller ID and phone number to match the police department’s. They’re telling victims that they need to pay money for missing a jury summons, threatening them with a racketeering charge and jail time.
The scammers are often asking for payments through Bitcoin or gift cards.
My Bellingham Now has previously reported on similar scams that were reported involving the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office, Whatcom Public Works and Bellingham Police.
The agencies reiterate they will never call to demand you pay a fine or fee.
