BLAINE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Another local municipality could join the wave of communities pumping the brakes on data centers.
The Blaine City Council is holding a public hearing on Monday, Oct. 26, to discuss a proposed zoning moratorium on data centers and battery energy storage systems.
It comes after Skagit County and Mount Vernon each approved six-month holds on applications for data centers.
Details of the proposal will be released once the council posts the meeting agenda on Friday, Oct. 23.
Anyone who wants to provide written comment can email the city council by 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
Questions on the proposed moratorium are being directed to the city’s community development services department at 360-332-8311 or by email at cdscomments@cityofblaine.com with BESS in the subject line.
The city is also holding the first of two public hearings on the preliminary budget for 2027.
Monday’s meeting takes place at 6 p.m. in the council chambers at Blaine City Hall.
