BELLEVUE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A bomb squad call in King County led to an out-of-this-world discovery.
Bellevue Police say an Ohio Air Force museum informed them that a Washington resident wanted to donate his dead neighbor’s military-grade rocket.
Officers and bomb squad personnel located the rocket in a garage, and they determined that the rocket was actually a Douglas AIR-2 Genie missile.
The missile didn’t have any fuel in it or a warhead attached, meaning it didn’t pose an explosive hazard.
The man who wanted to donate the missile told officers that his deceased neighbor had bought the missile at an estate sale.
It will now be restored for museum display after the military declined to take it back.
