WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A Border Patrol agent was injured in a car crash on Wednesday morning following a chase in north Whatcom County.

Washington State Patrol spokesperson Chris Loftis says the agent was involved in an operation that led to them pursuing a suspect in the county around 9:30 a.m.

During the chase, the agent’s vehicle was involved in a collision with an uninvolved third-party at the 4-way stop at the intersection of Birch Bay Lynden and Enterprise Roads.

Loftis says both drivers suffered minor injuries and were transported to PeaceHealth St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Bellingham.

Whatcom County Public Works issued an alert around noon, saying Birch Bay Lynden Road between N. Enterprise and Woodland Roads is closed with no estimated time for reopening.

Washington State Patrol’s investigation into the incident is ongoing.

No information has been released regarding the location of the suspect and the nature of the pursuit.

The FBI’s field office in Seattle said in a statement to My Bellingham Now that it is aware of the incident and working to determine what happened.

Border Patrol and Homeland Security have not responded to My Bellingham Now for comment.
