BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Bellingham International Airport is losing a major airline later this summer.

Southwest Airlines announced on Thursday, April 25 that flights in and out of Bellingham will end as of August 4, 2024.

The airline currently offers service from Bellingham to Las Vegas and Oakland, and recently expanded service to Denver last spring.

The Port of Bellingham released the following statement on Thursday afternoon:

Southwest says that ongoing issues with Boeing production means they’ll only receive 20 new planes for its fleet, compared to a previous estimate of 46.

Three other airports, two in the US and one in Mexico, will also lose Southwest services this summer.

Services in Atlanta and Chicago are being reduced, and hiring will slow down as the company expects to lay off 2000 employees by the end of this year. Southwest Airlines reported a $231 million loss in the first quarter of 2024.
