WASHINGTON, D.C. (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued an alert over elevated levels of lead found in certain ground cinnamon products.

The FDA found unsafe levels of lead in six products, five of which that have since been recalled. Ground cinnamon from the brands La Fiesta, Marcum, Supreme Tradition, MK, Swad and El Chilar all fall under the alert.

Those products are largely sold by discount retailers including the Dollar Tree, Family Dollar and SuperMercados.

The Washington Poison Center says products from La Fiesta and Supreme Tradition are the most likely to have been sold in our state. The center is advising people whose children may have eaten the implicated cinnamon to get a blood test for lead poisoning.
