MOUNT VERNON, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A fire that started in a port-a-potty badly damaged a Skagit County fire station.

The Skagit Valley Herald reports the fire started around 3 a.m. on Tuesday in a portable toilet outside the Lake McMurray fire station. It eventually spread to the back wall of the station and its attic.

The office is considered a total loss, including historical documents and other inventory that were either burned or destroyed by water in the effort to fight the fire. A spokesperson for the department says the fire was likely caused by a person.

The port-a-potty it was allegedly set in was on site during construction repairs from a frozen pipe that burst.

The department is currently accepting donations while it finds ways to serve the community until the station can be repaired.
