BLAINE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Good news for fans of Blaine’s historic passenger ferry!

The Northern Light reports the Plover ferry is on track to be back in the waters by May 15.

Drayton Harbor Maritime has been at the helm of restoring the nearly 80-year-old vessel, which has been undergoing extensive restoration since fall 2022. The Plover ferry was completely out of service last summer as a result of those repairs.

While much of the delays have been due to financial and contractual reasons, a recent sale of old-growth Douglas fir planks has expedited the rebuilding process. The ship was inspected by the US Coast Guard on March 20. It’ll be inspected again in mid-April before officially returning to the waters of the Blaine Harbor – just in time for its 80th anniversary.
