BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The operating dates of a severe weather shelter in Bellingham have been extended.

Whatcom County Health and Community Services says their emergency shelter on N State Street will now be available until March 14. The shelter was initially planning on shutting down as of Thursday, but forecasted cold weather prompted health officials to keep the space open. There will not be an extension beyond March 14 due to leasing issues.

Shelters at Civic Field have already closed for the season.

Ferndale’s Severe Weather Shelter is open Friday through Sunday at the United Church of Ferndale. Check-in is from 5:30-8 p.m. each night it’s open.

Base Camp is also open for folks seeking shelter.
