BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A Washington State Ferry, Coast Guard vessel and Anacortes Fire Department coordinated the rescue of six people and two dogs from a distressed boat over the weekend.
U.S. Coast Guard Station Bellingham received a distress call on Saturday from a 37-foot cabin cruiser experiencing gale force winds and four-to-six-foot waves in Rosario Strait.
A wave broke the craft’s windshield and several people on board suffered cuts from broken glass.
The ferry was able to take four people on board before the Coast Guard boat arrived.
The Coast Guard crew rescued the other two people and the dogs, Buster and Belle.
Two crew members were able to operate the boat and get it to Anacortes while the ferry shielded it from the wind and waves.
