MOSCOW, ID (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A planned memorial at the University of Idaho (UI) will honor the memory of four students, including a young man from Skagit County.

The university has announced plans to construct a space on campus called the Vandal Healing Garden and Memorial (VHGM). It would include a permanent reminder of Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle, Madison Mogen and Kaylee Goncalves – who were murdered in an off-campus home in November 2022.

Named for the mascot of UI (Vandals), the memorial would also have a garden space for reflection, remembrance and honor for any other students who died while at the school.

Landscape design and architecture students from the university recently completed two potential plans using input from the families of former students. The student teams will work on the designs before choosing one to submit for final approval this summer.
