BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Western Washington University (WWU) has given the pro-Palestinian encampment on its front lawn a deadline to clear out.
University Communications Director Jonathan Higgins said they are in talks with representatives from the student encampment as of Tuesday afternoon.
He added the encampment will have until 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 30 to leave the lawn in front of Old Main.
Students set up the tents early on Tuesday, May 14 and the encampment grew to upwards of 60 tents shortly after.
The organizers have stated they want WWU to divest from weapons manufacturers including Boeing. WWU President Sabah Randhawa sent an email to students on Friday, May 17 saying the university does not have affiliations with such companies, but they are open to adjusting their practices in investment tactics and procedures.
