BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – His name is ‘Broccoli Guy’. A sports fan who literally uses crowns of broccoli as pom poms.
Broccoli Guy was spotted at the GNAC Softball Championships, hosted by his alma mater Western Washington University. With broccoli firmly in both hands, he cheered on the Vikings to a 4-1 win against St. Martins.
His broccoli-based resume is long and distinguished. Recently, he was named The Everett Aquasox “Fan of the Game” and has appeared on ESPN’s SportsCenter 12 times.
“The broccoli idea was inspired by the Idaho Potato campaign. The Potato Bowl in Idaho had me dancing with potatoes before the game. I caught the eye of a camera guy, and the rest is history,” Broccoli Guy said.
This vegetable-oriented sports fan grew up in Puyallup, WA and later attended Western Washington University where he supported the numerous sports teams. In addition to supporting the softball team in The GNAC Championships, he also supported the WWU rugby team over weekend.

Broccoli Guy says he plans to cheer on teams with his broccoli crowns for the rest of his life. Even though he attends hundreds of games a year, he also has higher aspirations to get in front of more than just sports fans.
“I have always had a dream to be a backup dancer for someone like Taylor Swift.”
Some have questioned his vegetable choice, but he says he based his decision on sheer logic.
“I chose broccoli because they are like natural pom poms, and they spread joy.”
Broccoli Guy says it can be awkward going through security.
“Most teams know me and know that I am respectful with my broccoli. At times, I have had to breakdown the broccoli into smaller pieces and hide them in a plastic bag to get into stadiums who are strict about outside food,” Broccoli Guy said.
As many people know, broccoli itself has been a polarizing vegetable over the years. Often, it has been considered the number one vegetable that mothers around the world cannot get their kids to eat.
“I’m in my mid-30’s and it took me until recently to finally acquire a taste for broccoli.”
In true Broccoli Guy fashion, no broccoli goes to waste after he cheers for his favorite teams game after game. “I will take berries and broccoli and blend it into a smoothie,” Broccoli Guy says.
So, if you ever see the famous Broccoli Guy at a game, make sure you take a moment and say hello. Maybe if you’re lucky, you too can become a Broccoli Guy.
