WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Habitat for Humanity’s annual Build Community Day event will return to the Whatcom County area on Oct. 5.
This is the first year the event will focus its work on the Nooksack and Everson area. The goal is to bring a wide range of volunteers together to work with low-income homeowners still struggling with the aftermath of floods in 2021.
The Whatcom Community Foundation’s Project Neighborly Grant provides volunteer teams with the means to perform repairs at no cost to the homeowner. Typical projects accepted include yard maintenance, landscaping, fence repair and weatherization. Proposed projects must be outdoors and ideally take no more than 3 to 4 hours to complete.
All residents in Nooksack and Everson are welcome to fill out a project request form, which are due by Sept. 20. Priority will be given to homes within city limits and projects with the most impact that meet the income requirements. All individuals, including those outside of the Nooksack and Everson area, are welcome to apply as volunteers.
Build Community Day will take place in Everson, starting at 8:30 a.m. and concluding at 1 p.m., with lunch provided after.
