WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Fire preparedness remains pertinent to Whatcom County as statewide wildfire risks ramp up.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for Oregon and Washington is encouraging people to take extra precautions as our weather grows increasingly warmer.

This comes as a burn ban in unincorporated Whatcom County is set to take place on June 15.

Now, the bureau is advising the public on more ways it can prevent wildfires in the area.

Fireworks, steel component ammunition and sky lanterns, for example, remain prohibited on public lands.

Drivers are additionally advised to avoid parking or idling on dry grass as the intense heat from a vehicle’s exhaust system or catalytic converter could ignite the brush.

BLM has more information on fire prevention and preparedness on their website.
