WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Bus fares are officially on the rise in Whatcom County.

Whatcom Transportation Authority’s board of directors approved a schedule of proposed fare increases at their meeting on Thursday.

Starting in fall 2026, the price of a fixed route bus ride will rise from $1 to $2.

The monthly fare cap will increase from $30 to $60, and seniors ages 75 and older will no longer receive free rides.

Several groups will qualify for reduced fares, including seniors ages 65 and older, veterans and students.

That reduced monthly fare cap will be $30, the same as the current cap.

Youth ages 18 and under will still ride for free.
