SNOQUALMIE PASS, WA. – (MyBellinghamNow.com) Interstate 90 over Snoqualmie Pass reopened this morning after closing for hours overnight due to slick road conditions and multiple crashes.
KOMO reports both directions of the interstate closed around 1 a.m. before opening back up around 8 this morning, Wednesday, January 17th.
As a result, the Washington State Patrol was conducting chain enforcement this morning near North Bend.
Chains are required for all vehicles except all-wheel drive and oversized vehicles are prohibited at this time.
WSDOT says current road conditions at Snoqualmie Pass are compact snow and ice and it is “very icy” west of the pass.
State Trooper Rick Johnson says speed is the key factor and attributes two non-injury collisions to drivers going too fast for the conditions.
Slow down if you are driving today.
A winter storm warning is in effect for the Cascades above 1,500 feet from Whatcom County to Lewis County until Thursday afternoon, January 18th, with snow accumulation of 1 to 2 feet expected.
