EVERSON, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A child was killed, and a man is in custody following a high-speed crash in Everson.
The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office says that one of their deputies witnessed the accident just before 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31.
A car attempting to turn left onto Goodwin Rd from South Pass Rd was T-boned by a speeding car heading east.
The impact of the crash ejected an 18-year-old passenger from the non-speeding car, who was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Another passenger in that vehicle, identified as an 11-year-old, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver and a third passenger were transported to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center.
Deputies arrested the speeding driver, identified as 30-year-old Tyler Higdon of Sedro-Woolley, on vehicular homicide and assault charges.
Higdon was believed to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
