BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The City of Bellingham is offering a fun opportunity for Bellingham residents to name a historic landmark in Bellingham Bay.
The city is inviting the public to suggest names for the pier that extends into Bellingham Bay from the southwest corner of Little Squalicum Park. The pier was originally constructed by the Olympic Portland Cement Company in 1912 to carry railcars before a portion of it was donated to the city in 2021.
It will soon be renovated to provide up to 1,200 feet of public access over the water as part of the city’s Little Squalicum Master Plan.
Construction is expected to start later this year and can only take place from August through February to protect in-water habitat and wildlife.
Among the names currently suggested for the structure are “Eternity Pier”, “the Salish Seawalk” and “Squalkway to Heaven.”

Voting closes on July 12.
