BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A lawsuit against the City of Bellingham for destroying a motorhome has been settled.
Bellingham City Council voted unanimously on Monday night to approve a settlement of $150,000 to the plaintiffs Jerry and Terri-Lynn Land.
My Bellingham Now previously reported that the Lands sued the city and staff members for the seizure and destruction of their motorhome in 2023. The suit claims that the Lands’ motorhome was declared a so-called “junk vehicle” by city employees who failed to check on its operability.
The Lands claim they had no opportunity to contest the declaration, which allowed the city to tow and destroy the motorhome immediately from its location.
In exchange for the settlement, the lawsuit is dismissed with prejudice, preventing future litigation against the city on the matter.
