FERNDALE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The City of Ferndale has appointed a new Chief of Police.
Matt Huffman has been appointed to the role, filling the position left by former Chief Kevin Turner who took a new role with the City of Burlington.
Huffman retired as a lieutenant in 2023 after a 26-year career with the Ferndale Police Department. He returned as interim chief in December 2024 and has now taken on the role permanently.
“I’ve been consistently impressed by Chief Huffman’s calm and collaborative leadership style. His steady hand and deep understanding of our community will ensure that the Ferndale Police Department continues to be one of the top law enforcement agencies in our region,” said Mayor Greg Hansen.
A graduate of the FBI National Academy, Huffman was key in helping the department earn recognition for high professional standards.
In a statement, he said he’s humbled and privileged to continue leading the department.
“The officers, support staff, and volunteers of the Ferndale Police Department are some of the finest people I know,” said Chief Huffman. “The community can take pride in the unwavering commitment to service these individuals demonstrate each day. Regardless of who serves as Chief, the department remains in excellent hands.”
