WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The Colorado man accused of shooting a Lummi police officer has pleaded not guilty.

23-year-old Jesus Penuelas-Agramon was arraigned in Whatcom County Superior Court on Friday.

He’s charged with attempted murder in addition to drug dealing and money laundering, which he also pleaded not guilty to.

Court documents state the 37-year-old officer was shot seven times when he stopped to investigate a car that had driven into a ditch on the early morning of July 28.

My Bellingham Now previously reported Penuelas-Agramon was being actively investigated for drug activity before he was arrested later that day.

He has a status hearing set for Aug. 27 and his trial is scheduled to begin on Sept. 22.

Meanwhile, Lummi Nation Police say the still-unnamed officer is recovering well and making “great progress.”

The community has raised over $25,000 for the officer and his family through a fundraising dinner last week and a donation fund set up by the Lummi Nation.
