BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Community members are being asked to give their input on a proposed bond for a new Meridian Middle School.
The Whatcom County Auditor’s Office is seeking committee members to write statements against the district’s $71 million bond measure in the special election being held on April 22.
Washington state law requires the auditor to appoint up to three members to write “against” statements in the local voters’ pamphlet since the Meridian School District did not.
The district is re-running a similar bond to the one that failed in the Nov. 2024 general election. It received just over 53% approval from voters, short of the 60% it needed.
The deadline to apply to be on the “against” committee is Wednesday, Feb. 26 at noon. Those interested can email a request that includes their name, voter registration address, phone number and the district for which they wish to write a statement for to elections@co.whatcom.wa.us.
