WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The North Cascades could soon see their first snow of the season.

The National Weather Service in Seattle (NWS) says an unsettled weather pattern is expected to move through western Washington starting this weekend.

Forecasters say the North Cascades Highway could receive between 3 and 6 inches of snow from Saturday morning into Tuesday, Oct. 14.

The snowy conditions are only expected at higher elevations in the mountains. The weather could also make for a windy few days here in Whatcom County.

NWS is forecasting wind gusts of up to 35 mph along the coast of western Whatcom County on Saturday, with more wind peaking Monday into early Tuesday.

Cooler temperatures next week could also bring the potential of frost in foothills and valleys of the North Cascades.
