BLAINE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A Blaine man suspected in the shooting death of his neighbor has had his case dismissed.
Court records state that 77-year-old Wayne Mahar has been found incompetent to stand trial by doctors at Western State Hospital.
Mahar is accused of killing 67-year-old Vincent Reames in front of his home on Oct. 4.
Investigators say that Mahar admitted to shooting Reames “in self-defense,” but was not able to specify the exact threats made against him by Reames.
Mahar was initially sent to Western State Hospital last month after jail officials noted he was having memory issues.
Doctors determined that Mahar’s condition would likely not improve with treatment.
