Seahawks News

Some mixed news today on the status of the Seahawks’ starting quarterback.

The team announced that it’s ruled Sam Darnold out for their game against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, but says there’s no plans to put him on the injured reserve.

Darnold is dealing with a glute injury he suffered five snaps into their season opener against the Patriots last week. An IR stint would force him to miss at least four games, so the Seahawks have indicated he could return before then.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler has reported that multiple sources expect Darnold to miss roughly four weeks from the time of his injury.

Drew Lock will make the start in Arizona on Sunday, with second-year signal caller Jalen Milroe set to back him up.

Speaking of the Seahawks, the team is mourning the loss of a former fan favorite.

New Mexico State University announced this morning that 4x Pro Bowl linebacker Fredd Young has died at the age of 64.

Young was drafted by the Seahawks in 1984 and spent four seasons in Seattle, earning four Pro Bowl nods and a first-team All-Pro selection along the way. He was also known for his special teams play, earning the AFC’s Special Teams Player of the Year as a rookie.

Young was named as one of the Seahawks’ top 50 players in franchise history last summer.

His cause of death was not immediately revealed.

Mariners News

The Mariners’ late-season freefall continued last night.

They fell to the Los Angeles Angels 2-1 to seal a series loss in their second-to-last road series of the season.

The Angels struck first in the fifth inning and Julio Rodriguez hit an RBI double to score Dom Canzone in the sixth to even it up. But the Angels took the lead back for good right after that with a solo homer.

Logan Gilbert gave up two runs and struck out seven over six innings for the quality start, but the offense couldn’t hold up their end of things.

The M’s now sit 12 games under .500 and have clinched their first full losing season since 2019. With wins by the Astros and Rangers, they’re just a few games away from mathematically being eliminated from the playoffs.

George Kirby will look to help them avoid the sweep against LA tonight. Coverage begins at 5:30 and first pitch is at 6:38 on KPUG.
