WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – There’s a great opportunity coming up if you’ve got a boat that’s more trouble than it’s worth.

The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is hosting a free vessel turn-in event in Whatcom County this summer.

The event is open to any Washington resident who has proof of ownership or the legal right to get rid of the vessel.

DNR is not accepting any boats larger than 34′ long.

The agency says the event will help prevent boats from becoming abandoned and keep pollution out of the water.

Anyone interested has to submit their application by July 1 to get pre-approved before the date and location of the event are revealed.
