BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – We are inching closer to spooky season in Whatcom County. With fall comes rain, darkness, the scent of pumpkin spice and a flurry of autumnal celebrations. We have it all for you in this week’s Lifestyle Lookout.

October is here and that means it’s time to watch some documentaries. Pickford Film Center kicked off Doctober on Thursday, Oct. 1 and it runs through Oct. 25.

The festival features 35 films screening all month long making it the largest documentary film festival in the Pacific Northwest. Beyond the screenings, Pickford will welcome filmmakers and special guests for talks and receptions and lead group discussions about the films and the topics they explore.

For a full calendar and tickets, go the pickfordfilmcenter.org.

Oktoberfest is still in full swing in Whatcom County, but fest biers aren’t the only brews on tap. It’s fresh hop season in the PNW and many local breweries have cooked up special craft beers to mark the occasion.

Fresh Hop Party is on Friday evening, Oct. 2 at Kulshan Brewing’s Roosevelt Taproom (1538 Kentucky St.) in Bellingham. Featuring hoppy concoctions from Kulshan, Fremont, North Fork, Wander and Stemma, there’s no better way to taste the sensation of one of Washington state’s most important crops.

Fresh Hop Party runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

If you have been driving around the north county recently, you have probably seen the signs for the Lynden Lions Club Model Train and Toy Show.

Running this Saturday, Oct. 3 and Sunday Oct. 4 at the Lynden Fairgrounds, the show features exhibits, vendors, model trains, toy layouts and more. It’s a celebration of all things locomotive.

Admission to the Model Train Show is $10 for adults, $5 for kids and $25 for families up to six people.

We have two featured live shows for you in this week’s Lifestyle Lookout.
