Mariners News
The Mariners could be close to getting a critical piece of their offense back.
Utility man Brendan Donovan started his rehab assignment with the team’s Arizona Complex League affiliate last night. He went 0-3 at the plate with three strikeouts and a walk in his first game action since May 15 as he recovers from a groin strain.
Donovan was one of the Mariners’ best hitters before he got injured, batting .274 with three homers as their primary leadoff man.
The M’s are back tomorrow as they kick off a six-game homestand against the San Francisco Giants.
Bells News
The Bells are wrapping up their stretch of non-league games tonight.
They’re hosting Gunderson Baseball Academy at 6:35.
The Bells are looking to cap off their homestand on a high note after dusting the DubSea FishSticks 10-4 last night. Catcher Matt Churchill homered for the second straight game and Bellingham used a six-run third inning to earn the win.
They’re hitting the road tomorrow as they get back into West Coast League play against Kamloops.
The Bells only have six series left in the regular season as they look to secure one of three remaining playoff spots that are up for grabs in the North Division.
Sounders/Reign News
The Sounders are making their return from the World Cup break today.
They’re hosting the Portland Timbers at 7:30. Seattle will look to avoid losing its third straight match after suffering a pair of losses to LAFC and the Galaxy before the break.
They own a 7-3-3 record, good for sixth place in the Western Conference. But the Sounders will still be without US national team member Cristian Roldan, who aggravated a quad injury during the World Cup.
Meanwhile, the Reign are back on Saturday when they travel to the Big Apple to face Gotham FC.
Kraken News
The Kraken’s matchups for next season have been revealed, as the NHL released its expanded 84-game schedule.
Seattle will open their season on the road against the Calgary Flames on Oct. 1 and the Edmonton Oilers two days later. They’ll then play their home opener against the Flames on Oct. 4 before hosting the reigning Western Conference champion Vegas Golden Knights on Oct. 6.
They’ll also head to Finland for a pair of games in mid-November as part of the league’s Global Series.
This is the first time in over three decades that the NHL has expanded its schedule from 82 to 84 games, moving the official start of the season to the end of September.
Seahawks News
A Seahawks star is getting plenty of respect ahead of the upcoming season.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba was just voted the NFL’s top wide receiver by the Associated Press in a preseason survey. JSN received four first-place votes, three thirds and a fourth from a panel of eight AP pro football writers.
The Bengals’ Ja’Marr Chase followed him at #2 and division rival Puka Nacua from the Rams came in at #3.
Smith-Njigba is coming off a career year that netted him Offensive Player of the Year, along with a new contract that made him the highest paid receiver in the NFL.
Meanwhile, his coach, Mike Macdonald, was voted the third-best coach in the league behind Kansas City’s Andy Reid and division rival Sean McVay from the Rams.
